Has your computer/laptop ever just stopped working on you? I mean, right in the middle of a heated paper or assignment, just go BLACK. Try adding "final paper" or "thesis" or "dissertation" and you can almost taste the world coming down on you.

My very first experience of my computer leaving me out in the cold was during my final year of undergraduate study. It was a narrow miss for me; I just finished what I was working on when it gave up. Till tomorrow, I fear to wonder what would have happened if I didn't click the "submit" button.

I was sore afraid because I had no backup for storage. My laptop was IT. If that black box didn't turn on, any assignment, paper, project, etc was just GONE. After that experience, I learned the importance of having backup storage. More importantly, having online storage. Since then, I haven't looked back.

Then came the question of price. I know every smart brain that has gone through the pain of developing something useful, should make money; but as students, we do our best to cut cost. This is why your Winie has compiled a list of free cloud storage you can use to store up anything you want. The sum total of this can get you through any length of education if you don't use it to store movies *side eye*.

#1 Dropbox

Offer: Free 2GB

Out of all the forms of cloud storage, Dropbox has been in my life for the longest period. All you need to do is create an account and you get 2GB of storage with absolutely no strings attached. Sign up here.

#2 Google Drive

Offer: Free 15GB

Do you know I didn't even know google gave us free storage, for the longest? It's funny thinking about it now because I had a Gmail account for a while before I figured it out. Please don't be like me. If you haven't already, sign-up, get a google account, and you have 15GB of free storage. This has been an absolute life saver. Sign up here.

#3 OneDrive

Offer: Free 5GB

I was initially confused about this and that's why I didn't make good use of it until recently. OneDrive is owned by Microsoft. If you are as clueless as I was, and you have Microsoft account, you have access to OneDrive. You get 5GB of free storage; just like that! Sign up here.

#4 Amazon Drive

Offer: Free 5GB

Have you ever shopped at Amazon? I hope that's a rhetorical question. Everyone I know has an Amazon account. If you don't, please get one today. Amazon offers a few juicy benefits, especially for students. One of them is 5GB of free storage. Sign up here.

#5 Apple iCloud Drive

 Offer: Free 5GB

If you are one of the many Apple gadget lovers, then you already know this. Apple gives you 5GB of free iCloud storage. It's not nearly enough if you have one apple device, but you can definitely use it in addition to your other free cloud storage. Sign up here.

#6 Backblaze

Offer: Free 10GB

I very recently found out about Backblaze and it was so apt because I have nearly exhausted my other ones. I know, please ask me what I'm storing. I'm a picture hoarder! So, Backblaze is my latest sweetheart. They offer 10GB of free storage. I know - a whole T.E.N. Sign up here.

#7 Box

 Offer: Free 10GB
I found out about Box during my Ph.D. program. My school actually offered us secure storage with it. So, first find out if your university has something similar. If not, Box offers 10GB of storage, free. The only thing I don't like about their offer is that they have a 250MB file upload limit. This means you can't upload any file that is larger than 250MB at a time. Dear Box, please change this. If you just need to store documents, pictures, or other small files, Box is absolutely great. Sign up here.

#8 Sync.com

 Offer: Free 5GB
Sync is also another darling in the mix. They offer 5GB of free storage. I discovered Sync when I was hungry for what other free storage was available out there. It is absolutely worth it. Sign up here.

#9 Syncplicity

 Offer: Free 10GB

I can't get over their name. It amuses me; in my head, it's a combination of "sync" and "simplicity". The CEO of the company did not tell me oh; remember, all in my head. Okay, back to Syncplicity (giggles). They also offer 10GB of free data. It's also very 'Syncsimple' - you can use and sync on all your devices. Sign up here.

#10 4Shared

 Offer: Free 15GB

This is another generous company. They offer 15GB of free space. You read correctly - 15!! The only catch is, you have to log in every 180 days to keep your account active, or else they will remove you for more serious people. Okay, no jokes; I advise you use 4Shared with files you use frequently and not pictures from Donkey years ago, you just want to forget about. That way, you don't have to worry about keeping track of the last time you logged in. Sign up here.

#11 hubiC

 Offer: Free 25GB

This is what my people call "Eja Nla" which means "Big Fish". hubiC is our Big Fish. They offer 25GB free. I thought they were joking until I signed up. There's absolutely no catch it. Just 25GB to make you happy. Sign up here.

Writing this post made me really excited. Let's do a little math; if you create an account with these eleven sites today, you get 107GB FREE...Students, you are welcome!
