What If I Create A Timetable For Forgiveness?

2:55 PM

My Amazing People, I hope you are doing well.
In line with my goals for 2016, I will be sharing somethings that I learn in my journey as a Christian. Today, we will talk about 'Forgiveness'.

Yesterday morning, while I was doing my quiet time, I read that part of the Bible that so many of us, love to hate.

Matthew 18:21-22King James Version (KJV)
21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?

22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

As I pondered on this scripture, I asked myself "What if I make a forgiveness table for everyone, I have a close relationship with?".

I know what you are thinking, "Winie, are you serious?"
But Seriously, I thought about it. What did Jesus really mean?

Is it impossible to offend someone 490 times (70x7)? Do I get a pass for unforgiveness and keeping grudges after I forgive 490 times?
If any of those is true, then I better start counting, right?

Then an unexpected thought rushed into my mind; while I make myself a forgiveness table for the people in my life, I might as well make one for God.

That sent a sober feeling through my body. Am I willing to hold God to the same standard?
I don't know about you, but it might take someone a long time to exhaust 490 offences with me, but I wont last a few months with God, if God started counting mine. Then it hit me; if God gives me 490 chances, I will still blow it.

My people, as long as there is breath in our nostrils, we will offend God, we will offend other people, and people will offend us.
Forgiveness as hard as it may seem, is a gift that never stops giving. It frees us, and it helps the people around us too. The icing on the cake is, God has promised to forgive us, if we forgive those who offend us (Matthew 6:14).

So, I gave up the 490 times! All that means is, I DECIDED TO STOP COUNTING OFFENCES. I urge you to stop keeping records of evil in your heart.  If you must keep record, record the times someone made you smile, the times they showed you love, the times, they encouraged you, etc. Sounds cheesy, but it's the best way to live.

I urge you to choose peace and joy, by choosing forgiveness.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your week.
Have a Winning-Day
